Recently, Niagara Falls, Canada's West Niagara YMCA received a show of support from the John Deere Foundation, NiagaraThisWeek.com reported. The foundation donated $100,000 to the Together We Build Stronger Communities fund, which seeks to raise money for the recreation facility currently under construction.
The John Deere Foundation - in existence since 1985 - gained naming privileges on one of the gymnasiums of the YMCA, as a result. The head of Canadian operations for the agricultural equipment-maker, Michael Blonski, told the news source that the YMCA "stood out because it meets all of the criteria for the foundation and fulfills a need in the community.”
According to the Deere website, this is precisely what the foundation has in mind, as it looks to leverage the company's energy, funds and expertise for the benefit of non-profit organizations and to encourage local development.
Blonski also stated that a certain number of employees at John Deere Limited Canada's home office in Grimsby will use the community center, which will have two pools, three gyms and an indoor running track, among other features.
