Highway projects rewarded for being on time and under budget.
Using innovative management and keeping projects on time or on budget has earned four Southern Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (SASHTO) highway projects regional transportation awards.
The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) announced the winners at a time when depleted budgets and a languishing economy have put contractors and construction equipment companies in a major bind.
"These projects represent a tremendous value to the taxpayer and illustrate the hard work that goes into modernizing and maintaining the nation's system of highways and bridges," said John Horsley, executive director of AASHTO.
In these tough economic times, state departments of transportation are making every dollar count, Horsley said. "[T]hese outstanding projects illustrate how all of us benefit."
The North Carolina Department of Transportation received awards for the Clayton Bypass Project and the Ocracoke Bridges Project.
The Louisiana Department of Transportation took a prize for the Front Street Natchitoches Restoration Project; and the Florida Department of Transportation's 95 Express Miami Project won another of the awards.
