Irrigation Association applauds new bill to fund irrigation and water-use research.
The Irrigation Association (IA), an industry group representing irrigation equipment and system manufacturers, dealers, distributors and end users, stated its support for a bill passed in the House this month to create a research and development program on water-use efficiency and conservation within the U.S.
The Water-Use Efficiency and Conservation Research Act, introduced by Representative Jim Matheson of Utah, authorizes spending $100 million over the next five years to develop a research and development program under the Environmental Protection Agency Office of Research and Development.
The EPA will then incorporate the findings into constructing at least two buildings that highlight the latest water-use efficiency and conservation technologies and designs. The buildings will be open to the public.
"[Representative] Mathesons emphasis on the importance of water efficient technologies is much needed in Washington," said IA Federal Affairs Director John Farner.
IA thanked Matheson for his support of the EPAs WaterSense program and promoting water efficiency. IA will work with Matheson and his office to gain support for the bill in the Senate, the group said.
