Agricultural technologies have become a critical component to success management of farm operations.

According to a recent Farms.com news story, a group of John Deere dealers, independent agricultural software application developers and John Deere staff recently met at the “2014 Develop with Deere” conference to discuss how software systems can be better integrated to simplify the farm management process.

The conference featured a series of speakers and sessions, briefing attendees on technology updates and educating them on how to best deal with IT issues that may arise. The keynote speaker at the conference was Pat Pinkston, Vice President, Technology and Information Solutions, Agriculture and Turf Division at John Deere. Pinkston spoke to the challenges and opportunities of technology in agriculture, including the need for an accurate flow of data combined with expert decision making to get the most out of the available technologies.

In a Zimmcomm interview, Pinkston explains why he believes Deere is currently the preeminent technology solution provider in the agriculture industry, stating, “Nobody has more of the components or more of the capabilities than John Deere. Everything from the sensors that are on the machines, to the embedded capabilities, to now integrating mobile devices in the machines and the MyJohnDeere platform, nobody else has that complete solution. With that though, it’s not a total solution for the customer. Finding a way to integrate and connect up these other parties and bringing them in and enabling them with data and connecting back their insights is where we think we need to get to.”

John Deere continues to expand upon its agricultural technology innovation and the 2014 Develop with Deere conference allowed the company to hear from other industry voices and determine what actions need to be taken to better the customer experience.
