Purdue University announced on May 24 that it will be stopping at four northwest Indiana farms as a part of its Farm Management Tour, set to take place between June 23 and 24.

The overall goal of the tour is to highlight innovative methods used by farmers to improve soil health and manage nutrients while increasing profitability.

On June 23, the tour will stop at Styck Family Farms and Fair Oaks Dairy. At Styck Family Farms, individuals will learn about cover crops, irrigation and tile drainage. Fair Oaks Dairy will provide insight into manure management.

The tour will stop at Klemp Farms, Kingma Farms, and Remington Farms on June 24. At Klemp Farms, individuals will learn about no-till farming and soil health. The Kingma Farm visit will focus on nitrogen management, while the Remington Farms trip will highlight management strategies for cropping operations.

"This is an opportunity for farmers, agribusiness professionals and anyone interested in agriculture and food production to see firsthand how Indiana's farmers are adopting new technologies and practices to ensure a safe, secure and sustainable food supply while also improving profitability," said Jim Mintert, director of the Center for Commercial Agriculture and a tour organizer.

The Purdue Farm Management Tour is free. However, individuals need to register by June 17 in order to attend a luncheon on June 24 and the Agricultural Outlook presentation.
